How a Hydronic Forced Air Furnace Works

The hydro-furnace burns gas to heat water, then transfers heat from the hot water into a forced airstream to heat your home.

Here’s a step by step breakdown and diagram of the process:

  1. Natural gas or liquid propane is used to heat water inside a sealed, stainless steel combustion heat exchanger located outside the airstream.
  2. The hot water is pumped through a hydronic heat exchanger coil, transferring heat from the water to the airstream.
  3. The heated air is circulated using a high efficiency blower through the ductwork, to evenly heat the home.
  4. The hydronic furnace continuously monitors air temperature, automatically adjusting burner operation, water and airflow to maximize comfort and efficiency.
